“You Can’t Make Me!” Real Answers for Oppositional Defiance and Power Struggles

Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) can become a very disruptive stress on family life and presents difficult challenges for any parent or teacher. This webinar provides nitty-gritty solutions to oppositionality and defiant acts of misbehavior as well as to the power struggles shouting matches that so often ensue. It focuses on better ways to respond to children and teens who are sneaky, stubborn, and argumentative toward adults and who are bossy toward their siblings and playmates.

Based on his decades of family therapy practice, Dr. John Taylor will show you how to stay out of power struggles and stop the endless parade of nagging, scolding, time-outs, and punishments. He will detail powerful high-impact ways to impart helpful, socially appropriate avenues for experiencing personal strength and power and developing more socially useful methods of problem-solving and conflict prevention.

A high percentage of children and teens with ODD also have ADHD, and this combination is especially challenging for parents and educators to deal with. This reassuring webinar is jam-packed with practical, easy-to-understand strategies fo use at home and in clinical and school settings. Topics include how to identify oppositional defiance, uncover its hidden motives, provide safe channels for power-seeking assertion, and establish productive emotional safety and communication within the family. These methods are also helpful in contrived environments such as daycare, playgrounds, residential treatment centers, and classrooms.

Your child or teen will respond better to your discipline and leadership, because you will strengthen the bond of love and mutual respect. Be prepared to take plenty of notes. You can even ask questions of Dr. Taylor. This webinar is intended to improve the atmosphere in your family and your comfort with this aspect of your role as a parent.

In this live interactive webinar you will learn how to help the defiant child or teen experience:

  • New, fulfilling ways to experience personal power
  • A higher level of emotional safety with adults and peers
